“…if the church claims Jesus as its founder, it should at least share his values. The question for Christians is whether the church reflects the priorities of Jesus.”

“…if the church claims Jesus as its founder, it should at least share his values. The question for Christians is whether the church reflects the priorities of Jesus.”

“Christianity is less a codified doctrine or creed and more an approach to life that emphasizes grace, is always on the side of human dignity, is always devoted to our spiritual growth and moral evolution, and is always committed to the ongoing search for truth, even if that search leads us away from institutional Christianity.”

“But is it fine when the primary image we have of ourselves is one of worthlessness, brokenness, and failure? Is it all right when the church, which should be uplifting and enriching the human spirit, instead leaves us feeling debased and diminished?”

“I have often wondered if some forms of religion couldn’t more accurately be classified as a mental illness, given their power to distort the human mind and spirit.”

If these statements seem intriguing, perplexing or troubling then I hope you will join us over the next few weeks as we gather to explore Phillip Gulley’s book,  If The Church Were Christian.
